Bob Dylan sends Patti Smith to Sweden to accept his Nobel Prize

Bob Dylan still doesn’t care about winning the Nobel Prize in Literature enough to show up to the ceremony awarding him his honor, but at least he’s written a speech for it. According to the Prize’s Twitter account, Dylan’s words will be read at the December 10 event, though it’s not currently known by whom. Meanwhile, Patti Smith will fill in for him, singing “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.”

Smith, who won a National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids, may be angling for one of these babies herself, and is proving to the committee that she’s at least willing to take a trip to Sweden, which Dylan is most certainly not. Dylan only acknowledged that he had won the Nobel two weeks after the announcement was made. Initially, he flat out ignored the committee.
