Bob Dylan will sing some more American standards on upcoming triple album
Bob Dylan’s devotion to crooning standards in his signature croak will continue with an upcoming triple-sized album. Columbia announced today that the newly-minted Nobel Prize winner’s Triplicate will be available for purchase come March 31, and will feature 30 tracks. Each of the three discs has a different title—‘Til The Sun Goes Down, Devil Dolls and Comin’ Home Late—and they include songs like “Stormy Weather,” “The Best Is Yet To Come,” “Sentimental Journey,” and “As Time Goes By.” We are eagerly anticipating mashups of Dylan’s cover of that last one with the famous Casablanca scene to which it is linked. You can hear his version of “I Could Have Told You” below.
The A.V. Club praised Dylan’s first two albums riffing on the American Songbook. “Each of the tracks on this record carries a melancholy bent that Dylan wraps himself in,” we wrote of 2015’s Shadows In The Night. “The weight of his experience is present in every line, every vocal tic, and every exhale.” Fallen Angels was released the following year.
