Bob Marley biopic on the way
Following a recent movie about a dead pop icon based on a biography written by his widow–that is, last year's Joy Division film Control, which was adapted from Touching From A Distance, a book by Ian Curtis' wife Deborah–Rita Marley has signed a deal with The Weinstein Co. to produce No Woman No Cry. The biopic of the late Bob Marley will, like Control, focus on its subject's marital strife and infidelity (and might even find time to fit a little music in there). Rita Marley's tell-all book No Woman No Cry was released in 2004, and has been hotly pursued by Hollywood ever since. News of No Woman comes soon after the announcement that Martin Scorsese will direct a documentary, due 2010, about Marley's life.
