Bob Odenkirk is writing his memoirs, god damn it
Bob Odenkirk’s had a pretty far-flung and epic entertainment career: from Saturday Night Live writer to Mr. Show mastermind, to scene-stealing low-rent legal eagle and star of his own critically beloved cable drama. But what drives the Emmy winner’s constant transformations? What well does his comic energy draw from? Whence the “god damn its,” Bob?
Fans may finally get an answer, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting today that Odenkirk has sold an untitled comic memoir to Random House. Described by Odenkirk as a “comic bildungsroman”—and then further described as “defined by Webster’s Dictionary as ‘a novel about the moral and psychological growth of the main character,’ except this will be more memoir and the main character, Bob Odenkirk (actor, writer, comedian, gadabout), doesn’t grow morally or psychologically”—the book will presumably follow in the footsteps of other comedy memoirs like Steve Martin’s Born Standing Up or Amy Schumer’s recent The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo. No release date has been set, but we’ll presumably know it’s getting close when the irate, half-coherent shouting reaches a perfect apoplectic peak.
