BoJack Horseman’s Tom Jumbo-Grumbo eviscerates Donald Trump
In an example of ideal casting, Keith Olbermann lends his voice to the character of Tom Jumbo-Grumbo on BoJack Horseman. The famously contentious Olbermann, erstwhile ESPN sports commentator and MSNBC political pundit, has the exact right personality and skill set to portray Jumbo-Grumbo, a loquacious, suit-wearing blue whale who works as a news anchor on a cable network called MSNBSea. Like Olbermann himself, Jumbo-Grumbo has no qualms about launching into lengthy, opinionated rants on the air and putting his own personality front and center. Olbermann currently does this as the host of GQ’s political webseries, The Closer. Recently, YouTuber Johnny 2 Cellos (a.k.a. John Pirruccello) had the bright idea of matching up one of Olbermann’s rants from The Closer, one condemning the candidacy of Donald Trump, with animation of his BoJack Horseman character. The result is a video in which a cartoon whale lays waste to the Trump campaign, referring to the real estate mogul as “the most dangerous individual ever nominated by a major party for the highest office in this country.”
The speech is unsparing in its depiction of the GOP candidate as a would-be demagogue.
The Republican party has actually nominated for president an irresponsible, unrealistic, naive, petulant, childish, vindictive, prejudiced, bigoted, racist, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, fascistic, authoritarian, insensitive, erratic, disturbed, irrational, inhuman individual named Donald John Trump. This is madness. Any questions?
Here, for comparison, is the editorial as it originally appeared.
And, in the interest of completeness, here is some unadulterated footage of Olbermann’s character in action on BoJack Horseman. In this case, his character is interviewing Patton Oswalt’s Neal McBeal during the “BoJack Hates The Troops” episode from 2014.
