Bored commuter films “All By Myself” music video during overnight layover

Travel on planes long enough, and it’s inevitable that you’ll eventually encounter the Twilight Zone-esque spectacle of the overnight layover, a window into a bizarre alternate universe where normally bustling airport corridors are replaced with the eerily empty hallways of an after-hours ghost town. Most of us, trapped in the airport at two in the morning, console ourselves by raiding the vending machines for vital sustenance, jealously eyeing the various closed newspaper stands and restaurants, and staking out some benchspace to wait out the morning.

That’s not what happened with Vimeo user Richard Dunn, who took the opportunity of an overnight layover at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport to create a stirring cinematic paean to the nature of isolation. Which is to say, he used his iPhone to shoot a music video of himself goofing off all over the airport, set to Celine Dion’s cover of “All By Myself.”

The whole thing is immensely silly, with Dunn sneaking behind ticket counters and posing next to ironic signs, all while keeping up his super sincere lip-synching. But it’s the fun kind of silly, and Dunn manages to employ the airport’s moving walkways and escalators for some surprisingly good-looking panning shots.
