Bow! Ha ha! Yeah! Lady Dynamite returns
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11. All times are Eastern. I’m a pterodactyl! Ow! Corn!
Top pick
Lady Dynamite (Friday, Netflix): This was one of The A.V. Club’s favorite shows of 2016, and it comes back sharper and snappier for season two, with comedian and actor Maria Bamford’s onscreen alter ego—comedian and actor Maria Bamford—settling into a domestic existence with boyfriend Scott (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson). There’s also the introduction of a show-within-the-show, Maria Bamford Is Nuts!, which appears to require a bunch of retro-futuristic costumes and sets? We don’t know, we haven’t seen any of the new episodes yet—but Danette Chavez has, and Emily L. Stephens will be on hand to help to sort through the many meta Marias. And Emily does know what she’s doing, more than half of the time.
Regular coverage
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Friday, The CW, 8 p.m.)
Jane The Virgin (Friday, The CW, 9 p.m.)
Z Nation (Friday, Syfy, 9 p.m.)
Marvel’s Inhumans (Friday, ABC, 9:01 p.m.)
Saturday Night Live (Saturday, NBC, 11:30 p.m.)
Wild card
Futurama (Saturday, Syfy, 5 a.m.): At last, validation for the Philip J. Frys living their own, fish-out-of-futuristic-waters existence in the streaming age. Your friends with Netflix might be able to stream Futurama’s post-2010 output, and those Hedonism Bots who spring for Hulu have access to the whole shebang, but you, lucky cable-subscribing Earthican, can once more watch Futurama on cable. The show’s new home, Syfy, is taking a page out of FXX’s book, running all 140 episodes in a multi-day marathon, beginning with wall-to-wall Futurama this weekend.
