Box Office: The Rock beats The Demon Dog Of American Literature
This weekend America decided it liked its football action prison-based and delivered by a retired wrestler with some assist from a rapper. It further decided that, while it was intrigued by Brian De Palma's adaptation of James Ellroy's The Black Dahlia it could probably wait for the DVD. Also, while Zach Braff remains dreamy, he's solidly performing-within-limiited-expectations-dreamy and not topping-the-box-office-voice-of-his-generation dreamy. It's a fine distinction, but a crucial one.
How did it break down? Like this:
1. "Gridiron Gang," $15 million
2. "The Black Dahlia," $10.4 million
3. "Everyone's Hero," $6.2 million
4. "The Last Kiss," $4.7 million
5. "The Covenant," $4.7 million
6. "Invincible," $3.9 million
7. "The Illusionist," $3.8 million
8. "Little Miss Sunshine," $3.4 million
9. "Hollywoodland," $2.7 million
10. "Crank," $2.7 million
