Boys and girls are so complicated in this exclusive Sing Street clip
Once director John Carney takes us back to his ’80s rock roots and his “moony, pop-loving youth” in Ireland with the musical Sing Street. The film stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo as Conrad, the young Carney stand-in who, like his Once protagonist, is looking to connect with one special girl. Conrad’s endured the same difficult childhood as Carney, but that hasn’t put him off his his rock-star dreams. The irrepressible teen cobbles together a band of his buddies, whose influences include Duran Duran and The Cure, and takes the neighborhood by storm. The A.V. Club is premiering this exclusive clip of Carney’s making-the-band story, in which Sing Street rocks out to the admission that their respective “complicatedness” is one thing boys and girls have in common.
