Boyz II Men to have a little East Coast fling with Grease: Live
Motownphilly’s back again and hanging out at Rydell High, apparently—The Wrap reports that Fox has just added Boyz II Men to the cast of Grease: Live, the offer having been made on bended knee, we hope. Fox has reimagined the musical’s Teen Angel character, who (until now, of course) had been most famously portrayed by Frankie Avalon in the 1978 movie, as a trio of erstwhile water conservationists. The Grammy-winning group, which remains the best-selling R&B group of all time, will advise Carly Rae Jepsen’s Frenchy against dropping out of high school to become an esthetician, because no one wants their hair done by a slob. For the live TV musical, Boyz II Men will harmonize their way through “Beauty School Dropout” before getting back to that malt shop in the sky, i.e., their ongoing residency at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. You can catch Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens hand-jiving live when Grease: Live premieres January 31 on Fox.
