Brad Pitt was also up for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2

It looks like Cable’s going to have an, um, big part in Deadpool 2, if that Logan pre-show teaser is any indication. The characters did share a comic title at one point, after all. Casting speculation has abounded since the sequel was green-lit, with everyone from Kyle Chandler to Jon Hamm rumored to be stepping into the role of the grizzled mutant. Earlier in the week, Michael Shannon emerged as the frontrunner to play Cable, whose gruffness the Man Of Steel actor should easily be able to approximate. But according to Collider, Brad Pitt was also once on the short list, though the talks ultimately fell through.

The Allied star is busy figuring out what’s going on with a different sequel now anyway, but there’s no knowing how he’d fare opposite Ryan Reynolds’ jawing. He’s done the hardened-serviceman thing in several films, like Inglorious Basterds and Fury. But the closest Pitt’s come to appearing in anything comic book-related is 1992’s Cool World, and that was just a Who Framed Roger Rabbit? knockoff. Then again, that was 25 years ago, and Pitt does appear to have picked up a thing or two in that time, so maybe Fox shouldn’t listen to us when it comes time to casting the sequel. Not only has Reynolds proven to be an outstanding merc with a mouth, but the studio did nab Zazie Beetz for the role of Domino.
