Brendan Fraser to play Robotman in DC Universe's Doom Patrol series

According to Deadline, Brendan Fraser has signed on for a major role in the live-action Doom Patrol series on the DC Universe streaming service. Fraser will be providing the voice of Cliff Steele, a.k.a. Robotman, and playing as the pre-Robotman version of Cliff in some flashbacks from before a horrible car accident forced the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder to put his brain in a robot body. Actor Riley Shanahan will be wearing a “full body costume” for the physical Robotman performance, and while we don’t know exactly what that will look like, the idea of Brendan Fraser providing the voice of a character in a “full body costume” sounds appropriately weird for a Doom Patrol series.

The show—which comes from unstoppable producer Greg Berlanti and regular writer Jeremy Carver—will center on a team of odd heroes assembled by the aforementioned Dr. Caulder. Teen Titans member Cyborg will also be on hand to connect Doom Patrol to the larger DC universe in some way, but since Cyborg was nowhere to be seen in the “Fuck Batman” Titans trailer, it’s unclear how that will work.
