Brian Wilson to reunite with the Beach Boys, skeptical question mark?
Having lately secured the Beach Boys’ reputation as a theme-park perennial that exists solely to sell T-shirts to aging fans, frontman and vice-president of licensing Mike Love is said to be preparing for the group’s 50th anniversary by bringing back all its surviving members—including Al Jardine and Brian Wilson, whose most recent reunions with his cousin Love have been in court. Love made the announcement to the Las Vegas Sun, saying Brian—“who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project”—would rejoin the Beach Boys for the first time since a 2006 appearance marking the 40th anniversary of Pet Sounds. At the time, Wilson hinted that a full reunion could be possible, but it remains to be seen whether these new developments are all just wishful thinking on Love’s part, sort of like how he proclaimed in the same interview, “Close your eyes and not only do we today replicate exactly how the original songs sounded, but the technology has gotten better so we even sound better.”
