Bridesmaids writer to lead Melissa McCarthy’s pilot for Fox
Variety reports that Bridesmaids writer Annie Mumolo will star in a new comedy series that’s being executive produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Mumolo, who also costarred with McCarthy (and Falcone) in The Boss, will play the titular Amy in Amy’s Brother. As the title suggests, the half-hour comedy will center on a mismatched pair of siblings and their unconventional family. Amy’s bro is a Type-A, uh, type, while Amy is a single mother of two kids. They have to move in together, probably because of the economy, and so wacky, ultimately warmhearted hijinks can ensue.
Fox ordered the pilot last month, which was created by two other Bridesmaids and The Boss cast members, Jim Cashman and Mitch Silpa. Mumolo, who was nominated for an Oscar for Bridesmaids, has done lots of TV work, including stints on Transparent and Angie Tribeca.
