Brie Larson, Joan Allen, and William H. Macy gather in a Room (trailer)
Opening like a really grim version of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, director Lenny Abrahamson’s Room is about a mother (Brie Larson) and her young son (Jacon Tremblay) who are locked in a small shed. The mother was raped by her captor (played by Sean Bridgers), and the boy has spent his entire life living in what is effectively a single room. The film is based on a book by Emma Donoghue (who also wrote the screenplay) and, as seen in this trailer, things get a little more optimistic from there. The kid and his mom eventually get out, and Room transitions into a story about how they adjust to a world that is infinitely larger than the one they used to know. Joan Allen and William H. Macy also show up as the parents of Brie Larson’s character.
Room is set for a limited release on October 16, followed by a wider release in November. Now go ahead and make Tommy Wiseau jokes in the comments. We know everybody’s dying to do it.
