British series Sex Box, about having sex in a box, could be coming to America's sex boxes
After having delighted British audiences with its ribald depiction of sex taking place within the confines of a box, rather than the more traditional hallway full of slamming doors, the Channel 4 series Sex Box could be making its way to America. Relativity Media has purchased the U.S. rights to the one-off special that aired in the UK last fall, in which couples are asked to go into the “sex box”—what the uptight call “a room”—and have sex, then emerge from said sex box to talk about their sexy sex with sex experts like Dan Savage, all in front of a live studio audience who knows they just had sex.
“Are we not all always having sex within the ‘box’ that is the imposition of social mores and gender stereotypes?” none of these people say, because that would be boring. Instead, as seen in the video below, there’s the slightly less boring, marginally more frank discussion about how sex fits into these couples’ relationships—but still, you won’t see any actual sex. It’s not called Sex Diorama. Relativity is currently looking for its own cable partners to get into the box with it, as it were, and help bring Sex Box to the States. Except for Utah, probably, where “Sex Box” is already what they call the television. [Broadcast via Digital Spy]
