Broad City’s Abbi and Ilana are doing a live recreation of Wayne’s World
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Wayne’s World, the movie that taught us everything we’ll ever need to know about guitar lust, gelatinous cubes, and the cutthroat world of Illinois public access TV. To celebrate the film’s enduring legacy, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson—the stars of Comedy Central’s Broad City, and well-studied students of its two-buddies-slacking-off dynamic—have decided to bring Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar’s mirthful antics back to the world, in the form of a live table read at this year’s Colossal Clusterfest in San Francisco.
Glazer will take on the role of Mike Myers’ Wayne, while Jacobson will play the production’s ersatz Dana Carvey. Meanwhile, they’ve also assembled a pretty stellar guest star list, with Tia Carrere reprising her role as Cassandra, and comedian Ron Funches giving what we can only assume will be a dementedly cheerful take on Wayne’s deranged ex, Stacy. (Lara Flynn Boyle in the original.) The one we’re most excited for, though, is comedian Tig Notaro, who’ll apparently be deploying her best Rob Lowe impression as the film’s villain, Benjamin, a guy who, you might recall, if he were an ice cream flavor, would probably be pralines and dick. John Michael Higgins, Moshe Kasher, and Janet Varney will also perform.
Clusterfest runs from June 2 to June 4; Broad City is back on Comedy Central in August.
