Broad City’s excellent final season continues

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, February 7. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Broad City (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): It’s not as though Broad City ever had a slump. There are good but flawed episodes, good episodes, really good episodes, and insanely great ones—that’s the range. Early in its fifth and final season, Abbi and Ilana have had one really good one, and one in that last category: the ambitious yet oddly simple season premiere. Here’s our own Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya on “Stories,” and Broad City more, ah, broadly:

Now in its fifth, Broad City has the luxury of a planned ending. Promos for the final season have teased major cliffhangers and dramatic endings for the two best friends, but it’s safe to assume that the series will end without too many theatrics. It’s just a show about two friends running around the city with foibles, mishaps, and shenanigans. And yet, as its creators and stars, Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, and the team they’ve assembled have consistently taken everyday, simple scenarios and pumped them with genuinely weird, specific comedy. In a comedy landscape that increasingly skews high concept, it’s a breath of fresh (though weed-laced) air.

If you’re not current, now’s the time; there’s no slump in sight.

Regular coverage

Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All Access, 8:30 p.m.)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (NBC, 9 p.m.)
How To Get Away With Murder (ABC, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Supernatural (The CW, 8 p.m.): This is going to be pretty short: Tonight’s episode of Supernatural, “Lebanon,” is the show’s 300th. That’s THREE-HUNDREDTH.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns for the THREE-HUNDREDTH HOUR of Adventures With The Winchesters. Three Zero Zero. 299 + 1. That’s bonkers. Cheers, Dean and Sam.
