Broadchurch tries to narrow down its list of suspects
Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, July 12. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Broadchurch (BBC America, 10 p.m.): Given that this British crime drama seems to have recovered from the season-long stumble it went through last year, these final episodes are providing a nice opportunity to again get wrapped up in the mystery. In this third installment, things start to pick up as the search gains steam: “Hardy faces a race against time as Ellie discovers a startling new piece of evidence, forcing them to reassess their suspicions.” Gwen Ihnat looks forward to your many speculations in the comments.
Regular coverage
Kingdom (Audience, 8 p.m.)
Snowfall (FX, 10 p.m.)
Wild card
Smokey And The Bandit (Sundance, 8 p.m.): There’s a reason Burt Reynolds was one of the biggest stars in the world in the ’70s, and this movie helps explain why. He’s got matinee-idol charisma to burn here, playing a bootlegger who bets he can ship a full truck of beer from Texas to Arkansas—and falls for the woman (Sally Field) engaged to the son of a sheriff (Jackie Gleason) hell-bent on stopping him. Crack open a few cold ones while watching for maximum enjoyment.
