Brooding sparks fly when True Detective’s second season is recut as a rom-com
Sure, True Detective Season 2 was mostly about suffering, both for the characters and the audience, but that doesn’t mean that it was without its romantic flare. Vince Vaughn’s Frank Semyon is strongly motivated by his love for his wife, while Rachel McAdams’ and Colin Farrell’s cop characters find some semblance of a romantic spark after a couple of drinks and a few horrific experiences.
Daily Motion has done us all the favor of going the next step and recutting some True Detective scenes into a full-blown rom-com, creating a trailer too dirty to ever be an actual movie preview. In the romantic-comedy version of TD, McAdams and Farrell watch brooding sparks fly, only to see it get in the way of McAdams’ detecting career. The clip even offers the tagline: “To ignore true love would be the ultimate crime.” Cue the music from Des’ree, Fatboy Slim, and Wilson Phillips, and you have a quirky, off-beat, and harrowing romance starring the most miserable people to ever exist.
