Bryan Cranston may end up being the reason to see that Total Recall remake

Bryan Cranston has often remarked that his Breaking Bad character is a “good man who makes bad decisions,” so it’s easy to see how he would identify with the so-called “villain” of Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake. After all, Vilos Cohaagen—whom Heat Vision reports Cranston is currently in negotiations to play—is a misunderstood dude who just really, really wants to be ruler of the world, probably for his kids or something, so he pretends to be protecting the citizens of his nation state Euromerica while secretly plotting an invasion of the neighboring New Shanghai—a strategy that involves messing with the memories of Colin Farrell’s factory worker who may also be a spy. Who among us cannot relate to that? As you can tell, the story is deviating slightly from the 1990 adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale,” and so far doesn’t seem to be centered on said ruler withholding oxygen from his people—meaning Farrell probably won’t be asked to bark at Cranston, “Cohaagen, you’ve got what you want! Now give these people air!” But you know, maybe it’ll still be worth seeing.
