Bryan Singer developing World War III for Spike TV
World War III is coming to Spike TV. The cable network announced the new drama series, helmed by Bryan Singer, on Tuesday as part of its continued efforts to boost scripted programming. World War III will tell the story of a man with a troubled past (sounds like the majority of drama pilots in recent years) who starts a resistance movement of ordinary citizens to become the war heroes of a third World War (okay, that’s a little different). America becomes occupied territory as the new global conflict gathers speed.
Spike TV’s upcoming scripted lineup consists of a long list of other series featuring troubled men, including the psychological horror series Bad Medicine, from writer Aaron Mendelsohn and executive producer Nick Hamm; Hummel & Howe, a period drama set in late 19th Century New York City from writer Andy Bellin and producers Scott Aversano and Tom Gormican; Mr. In Between, based on a story by Walter Mosley, who is set to produce with Diane Houslin; and Secret America, set in the near future when the U.S. has turned into an autocratic state and executive produced by Sharon Hall, with Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz attached to write.
