Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season Nine brings in Vampire Diaries writer

For those who have followed, grudgingly or otherwise, the continued, canonical comic-book adventures of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, here’s some other news that may or may not be exciting: Dark Horse’s just-announced Season Nine of the series will debut in September under Andrew Chambliss, a former writer for Dollhouse who’s currently been honing his skills at writing sexy scenarios and snappy retorts for the undead over at The Vampire Diaries. Chambliss didn’t drop many details on what he has planned for his Buffy run in this L.A. Times interview—beyond assuring everyone that, no, there would not be a crossover between the two franchises—but he did offer a few hints toward its direction that we won’t spoil here for anyone who hasn’t read the books yet. (Suffice to say that they echo Joss Whedon’s comments that he’d like the storyline to “bounce back a little bit to the real world,” which even knowing nothing else about it is already something of an understatement.) And for those who have thus far avoided reading the comics, and would like to go on blissfully pretending that the Buffy story ended years ago, that’s fine too.
