Buffy The Vampire Slayer's comic reboot is making some big changes to the series' mythos

Since news broke back in the fall of 2018 that a re-imagining of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer comic was on its way, fans have been clamoring for first looks at upcoming issues, as well as any news regarding major changes to the series’ mythos promised by Buffy creator Joss Whedon and BOOM! Studios. And now that Buffy The Vampire Slayer #1 has hit shelves, it looks like we have rather interesting news on some of those changes, courtesy of CBR.com.

Written by Eisner-Award nominated writer Jordie Bellaire, with main cover artwork by Dan Mora and Mondo artist Matt Taylor, the first issue showcases Buffy Summers acclimating to life in Sunnydale, working at a fast-food restaurant. In addition to no longer being the new girl in town, Buffy is also already vampire hunting; in the issue, she saves both Xander and Willow from a vampire attack, and seems pretty complacent with her vampire-slaying adventures. This change, of course, also translates over to her relationship with Rupert Giles—her Watcher and mentor for approximately three weeks, according to the comics. There are a few character changes in the comic as well, including: No mention of Jesse (poor Jesse), Xander doesn’t have a crush on Buffy, and Willow has a girlfriend, as well as being more relaxed than in previous portrayals.

The first issue of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is on shelves now, and the second issue is set to debut on February 13, 2019.
