Although TV usually sucks in the summer, fear not: your first must-watch has arrived, surprisingly brought to you by the Lifetime network. UnREAL is the first of its kind, a fictionalized behind-the-scenes look at reality series Everlasting (to read: The Bachelor), helmed by producer Marti Noxon of Buffy fame. TV editor Erik Adams and copy editor Gwen Ihnat discuss UnREAL’s many merits, as shown in episode two, “Relapse.” Who is the worst person on this show? (There are so many candidates to choose from!) Who knew Shiri Appleby would be so convincing as our heroine, an almost-homeless TV producer who specializes in pulling Everlasting’s emotional strings? What will receive the coveted “Inanimate Object Of The Week” award”? (Hint: It’s a “Shame MacGuffin.”) And just what is so cool about a behind-the-scenes look at a behind-the-scenes show? Check out this DVR Club chapter to find out. (You can also binge-watch UnREAL’s first four episodes to quickly get up to speed.)
