Canada’s immigration site has crashed

Smashed by the force of a million Twitter jokes turning from satire, to anxiety, to a sudden, desperate escape plan, the Canadian government’s immigration web site has crashed. We don’t know for certain that http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/’s current problems were brought about by concerned Americans looking to duck out on the results of tonight’s election, but it doesn’t seem out of the realm of the possible, either.

According to the Wikipedia page for Canadian immigration—still up, somehow, although watch this space—the largest number of people moving to Canada in recent years were originally born in the U.K.; the U.S. comes in sixth. We’ll see if that changes in the coming months, as Inauguration Day for the President Of the United States—currently scheduled for Friday, January 20—gets closer and closer to being real.
