Captain America 3 is probably already in the works

Anyone who was planning to avoid Captain America: The Winter Soldier because they couldn't bear the thought that the film might be the last in the series can relax. While the sequel won’t hit theaters until April, a third movie is in the works—probably. According to Variety, co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo are set to return and are already outlining a story arc, although the movie hasn’t technically been greenlit yet.

An official announcement is, of course, contingent on how well Captain America: The Winter Soldier does at the box office, but Marvel has reportedly been very impressed with the Russos' work on the film, as well as buoyed by early test screenings. And given how well Thor 2 performed at the box office, it seems likely Captain America: The Winter Soldier will find commercial success as well (even if it does lack some of Thor's homoerotic sexual tension).

Should the film be greenlit, Kevin Feige will return as producer and Chris Evans will stick around as the Cap. The third installment wouldn’t hit theaters until 2016 or 2017, meaning it would take place after the events of Avengers 2, which premieres May 2015. So, unsurprisingly, you can look forward to films from the Marvel universe for many, many more years to come.
