Captain Marvel falls to Earth, gets back up again in first trailer

The first trailer for Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as superpowered fighter pilot Carol Danvers—a.k.a. Captain Marvel—has arrived. In case you forgot this was a period piece, the trailer opens with Captain Marvel falling to Earth and into a Blockbuster Video. (We’re guessing the sci-fi section.) There, she hooks up with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who takes the disoriented, “renegade soldier” under his wing. Larson is all grit and steely determination in the role, by which we mean she punches an old lady—a shapeshifting Skrull, we imagine—in the face.

Captain Marvel debuts on March 8, 2019.
