Captain Phillips screenwriter will pen the DiCaprio/Hill movie about Olympic bombing suspect Richard Jewell

As we reported last month, Wolf Of Wall Street co-stars Leonard DiCaprio and Jonah Hill will re-team for an upcoming biopic about Richard Jewell, the security guard falsely accused of planting a bomb at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The movie is one step closer to production with the news (via Variety) that screenwriter Billy Ray will be in charge of the script, based on a Vanity Fair article. Ray has a funny résumé, having written the notoriously ridiculous Bruce Willis psycho-sexual thriller Color Of Night as well as more measured fare, like Shattered Glass (which he also directed), and even the blockbuster Hunger Games. Jewell’s story offers a pretty horrific indictment of the media, which swooped in to declare his guilt before he was charged with anything; as it turned out, Jewell had nothing to do with the bombing and in fact probably saved a number of lives by discovering the mysterious knapsack. He successfully sued several media organizations for libel before his untimely death at age 44, in 2007. Hill will play Jewell in the film, while DiCaprio will reportedly play Watson Bryant, Jewell’s lawyer.
