Car guy Justin Lin is rebooting Knight Rider
Up until now, Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious movies have had to suffer the indignity of letting human actors do the talking. Oh sure, the cars get all of the attention when they’re jumping over stuff or crashing into stuff, but when it’s time for exposition, nobody cares what the cars have to say. Finally, Lin will be able to change that with his latest project, a reboot of classic ‘80s action series Knight Rider.
This news comes from Deadline, which reports that Lin’s reboot will air digitally and that it’s being developed by Machinima—which was also behind Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. The original series was about David Hasselhoff as a rad dude with a cool car that could talk, and though Deadline doesn’t have any specific details about Lin’s version, we imagine it’ll be largely similar (give or take a Hasselhoff). Really, though, the last attempt at a reboot set the bar so low that all Lin has to do is make sure the talking car isn’t a Mustang and he’ll be fine.
As we reported back in September, Lin is also developing a Hot Wheels movie, so he’s clearly going to be playing with cars for a long time.
