Carlos, Schlesinger, Iha and pretty girl singer from Hanson form random-ass supergroup Tinted Windows
If you're like us you've spent much, if not most, of your life rocking out to Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, Hanson and Smashing Pumpkins albums and fretting, "Dammit, I just don't have enough time and energy to listen to four separate groups! Why, oh why, oh why, can't their various members unite to form a single spectacular outfit, a "super" group as it were?"
Your prayers and mine have officially been answered, as Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Fountains of Wayne/Ivy bassist/songwriter extraordinaire Adam Schlesinger and singer/multi-instrumentalist Taylor Hanson have joined forces Voltron-style to form Tinted Windows, the most random supergroup since Phillip Glass, Young MC, Steve Albini, Uncle Kracker, Bez, Linda McCartney, Baba Oje, Skrewdriver and the Stray Kat Mob confused everyone by releasing several albums as "The New Traveling Wilburys".
Actually the band is not as random as it might appear: Iha and Schelsinger co-own Scratchie Records and a recording studio in Manhattan and Cheap Trick and Hanson share a flair for catchy power-pop. This might just be a rare instance where the phrase "supergroup" can be used without sneering sarcasm. Tinted Windows' self-titled debut album will be released on S-Curve April 21st. The band will play Late Night WIth David Letterman the night before the album drops. As big-time Fountains of Wayne and Cheap Trick fans we're cautiously optimistic.
