When Amazon released its latest batch of pilots, Transparent stood out as a favorite among viewers and critics. In addition to hailing from United States Of Tara’s Jill Soloway, the pilot episode’s cast was already solid, featuring Jeffrey Tambor, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker, and Jay Duplass. And the rest of the season can only get better now that Carrie Brownstein is also joining. The Portlandia star will play Syd, the best friend of Gaby Hoffmann’s Ali. There’s no word yet on her exact role in the larger story, which involves “an L.A. family with serious boundary issues” whose “past and future unravel when a dramatic admission causes everyone secrets to spill out.” For now, the full pilot is available to watch here (free for all Amazon Prime users).
