Carrie Fisher’s ashes have been placed in a giant Prozac pill
Earlier today in Los Angeles, a private ceremony was held for Debbie Reynolds, who died last week, shortly after her daughter, Carrie Fisher. (Fisher was laid to rest in a similarly private ceremony yesterday.) But the author and actress was still there in spirit, with her ashes being carried in a vessel that perfectly fit her often-hilarious approach to a life-long struggle with mental health: a giant Prozac pill.
The pill was carried by Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, who answered reporters’ questions about his sister’s prized possession after the ceremony was concluded. “Carrie’s favorite possession was a giant Prozac pill that she bought many years ago,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “A big pill. She loved it.” Fisher said that he and his niece, actress Billie Lourd, looked around for an appropriate vessel for Fisher’s ashes, before settling on the ceramic pill. “Billie and I felt it was where she’d want to be.”
Fisher also noted that there would be a public remembrance for Fisher and Reynolds in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we’re left with this latest gesture, one that’s a little sad and a lot funny, as a way to remember Fisher’s larger-than-life legacy.
