Carrie Fisher’s brother says she’ll appear in Star Wars: Episode IX

Carrie Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, has given permission for footage of the beloved actress to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX. Fisher—who died last December, after finishing filming on the franchise’s eighth installment, The Last Jedi—apparently recorded at least some material for the series’ ninth, which is being directed by Colin Trevorrow.

The actress’ brother and daughter, Billie Lourd, apparently made the decision together, with Todd Fisher telling reporters, “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is, you don’t.” Fisher added, “I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her. She’s owned by them.”

Given that we don’t know anything about Episode IX, including its title, it’s not clear how much of Fisher’s iconic Princess/General Leia will appear in the movie. (Meanwhile, though, this will hopefully keep people at Disney sated so that nobody starts resurrecting that “digital Leia” rumor that was going around shortly after the actress’ death.)
