Carrie’s in Germany and back in trouble in Homeland season 5 trailer

Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) has a new home and employer in season five of Homeland, but she quickly finds herself drawn back into foreign affairs in the trailer. It’s been about three years since the events of season four, and the action’s moved to Germany, where Carrie is now the head of security at the Düring Foundation.

Despite her protests that she’s just a private citizen, Carrie’s still very much in agent mode—traveling to Lebanon with her boss, being questioned in a room by strange men, and ordering her back-up to “take him out.” But she balks at an American journalist (Sarah Sokolovic) who asks for help verifying the files that some German hackers recently (illegally) obtained. Yes, it seems in the near future, the United States will be handling Germany’s domestic surveillance, due to those pesky German privacy laws.

Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) makes various people aware of the data breach, including Allison Carr (Miranda Otto), Berlin’s Chief Of Station. The Germans want out of the whole spy-for-us agreement, which Saul thinks is a dumb move, but not as dumb—and naïve—as he thinks Carrie is for helping out the journalist once he learns she’s involved. Just wait till he finds out about the whole Quinn (no, not that one) thing.

The rest of the trailer has an increasingly frustrated Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), Carrie’s daughter and new dude, Quinn reaffirming that he’ll kill anyone he’s ordered to, and Carrie in a wig and a Victor Von Doom mask—which is all just par for the course. Homeland season five premieres October 4 on Showtime.
