Cate Blanchett is in talks for Thor: Ragnarok
Making the jump from “medieval-sounding fantasy stuff” to “medieval-sounding fantasy stuff, except everyone is also an alien,” Variety is reporting that Cate Blanchett is in talks to appear in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. The film—the third in Marvel’s Chris Hemsworth-led, hammer-hurling franchise—is being directed by What We Do In The Shadows’ Taika Waititi, and would represent Blanchett’s first step into the comic-book-movie maw that will someday swallow up every qualified performer in Hollywood, in some sort of inescapable adaptational singularity. (Robert DeNiro is… Geo-Force!)
That’s for the future, though, which is also when we’ll presumably have some clue as to which irritatingly spelled Norse goddess Blanchett will be lending her considerable talents to for the film. (Our guess, based on nothing but wishful thinking: Death goddess and frequent Thor opponent Hela, if only because the thought of Blanchett going “All Galadriel-the-terrible-and-beautiful, all the time” while punching Thor in the face a bunch is too fun for us to possibly pass up.)
