It’s time for anyone still holding out hope for a certain character reveal on Game Of Thrones to give it up already. Michelle Fairley, who portrayed Catelyn Stark for three seasons on HBO’s fantasy juggernaut—and would therefore play the character that so many book readers have been pining for—has just signed on for a key role in the Starz limited series The White Princess, according to TV Guide. Fairley will play Lady Margaret Beaufort, the Machiavellian mother of Henry VII of England, in the sequel to the popular 2013 miniseries, The White Queen. As such, it’s highly unlikely that she’ll have much time for traipsing through Westeros in any personage.
Intrigue, deceit, and power squabbles will remain a constant for Fairley, though. Her newest onscreen mother character will square off against Jodie Comer’s Princess Elizabeth Of York (or “Lizzie”) for the coveted position as the King’s most trusted confidant in this historical drama set during the War Of The Roses. “The union brings Lizzie in direct conflict with Henry’s strong-willed mother,” according to a press release. “As Margaret’s influence over her son begins to wane and Lizzie’s star rises, Margaret beings to unravel as the sins of the past and present weigh heavily on her conscience and her relations with Henry are at risk of potentially imploding.” Like its predecessor, The White Princess is based on Philippa Gregory’s The Cousins’ War novel series.
The eight-episode limited series is scheduled to debut on Starz at some point in 2017.
