CBS inks overall deal with Jane The Virgin director

CBS has announced that it’s signing an exclusivity deal with Jane The Virgin director Brad Silberling. Silberling, a long-time TV and film director whose credits include Casper, Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events, and The CW’s period drama Reign, has signed a two-year overall deal with the network, giving them exclusive access to his TV output until 2016.

Silberling’s career has been far-ranging, so it would be silly to assume that every show he works on from now on will be about people whose lives are altered by incompetent doctoring, as in Janewhere a young virgin’s life is turned upside-down when her doctor accidentally artificially inseminates her. We would never suggest, for instance, that he might work on a superhero show about people who gain powers from objects left inside them during surgery, or a sitcom about patients trapped on a ward together due to recurring bouts of hospital-acquired infectionseven if the zeitgeist-baiting title Bad Doctor is just sitting there, waiting for a veteran producer to snap it up and fill it with stories of botched facelifts and bungled lung transplants.
