CBS just heard the most amazing idea for a show about an edgy hacker girl who solves crimes
Although CBS recently made it quite clear that it barely has any room for new shows what with the clutter of all these darn hits, the network managed to pick up three new pilots anyway, charitably adding them to the collection since all those nice writers found time to write them. The first of these is the previously reported Ralph Lamb from Goodfellas writer Nicholas Pileggi and director James Mangold, which is based on both the true story of the rodeo cowboy turned sheriff who wrassled Las Vegas, as well as network TV’s equally tenacious determination to make one of these 1960s period dramas stick. There’s also Applebaum, which is based on the Mommy Track Mysteries book series about a stay-at-home mom who becomes a private detective to stave off boredom, and which really needs a flashier, CBS procedural-style title like Mommy P.I. or The Momanist. And finally, proving that CBS’s ratings mean it can pretty much get away with anything, there’s Quean, a drama named after a particularly bad Scrabble hand, and concerning a detective who solves crimes with the help of “an edgy and independent hacker girl,” who may or may not have distinctive tattoos, because we’re CBS and what are you going to do about it? Probably nothing. Probably nothing.
