Variety reports that Andy Weir is sticking with space, with CBS announcing that it’s picked up a new, NASA-set project from the The Martian author. Centered on “the next generation of NASA astronauts and scientists,” the series will see these sexy young space cadets ”juggle their personal and professional lives during a critical mission with no margin for error,” and will be titled Mission Control, even though Grey’s Astronomy is waiting right there for someone to pick up and use. The hour-long drama will be one of Weir‘s first project as a screenwriter; he was previously attached to a still-untitled film from The Martian director Ridley Scott.
Meanwhile, CBS has also acquired a new series from TV mainstay Mark Feuerstein. Feuerstein—whose credits include The West Wing, Good Morning, Miami, and a long stint as the star of USA’s recently ended Royal Pains—has sold the network on 9J, 9K, And 9L, an autobiographical series about a point in his life when his apartment was sandwiched between his parents’ on one side, and his brother’s on the other. (Think Everybody Loves Raymond, but without all those pesky roads.) Feuerstein’s wife, Friends writer Dana Klein, is set to co-produce.
