Celebrate Ghostbusters Day with a Build-A-Bear you can burn in effigy—or not
Today marks the 32nd anniversary of Ghostbusters’ theatrical release and, like most people do on such occasions, the film franchise is celebrating with Build-A-Bear. The Build-A-Bear workshop just released three brand new toys for children to cram full of high-grade polyester fiber, plush hearts, and kisses. Nerdist has an exclusive look at the new stuffed animals, which include a Ghostbuster bear, Slimer, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
Perhaps hoping to stay above the angry fray surrounding the upcoming reboot, the Ghostbusters bear is seemingly genderless. In fact, its swooped hairstyle looks equally like that of Harold Ramis’ Egon Spengler and Kate McKinnon’s Jillian Holtzman, thus ensuring it will piss off either everyone or no one.
All the items are currently available for pre-order on the Build-A-Bear website (you can purchase the toys pre-stuffed if going into the store isn’t your thing). A naked bear will run you $25 and the fully decked out version is $56.50. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is $29 while the mini seven-inch Slimer is only $12.50. The toys will be available in stores starting June 23, just a few weeks before the new film hits theater.
There are also Ghostbusters-themed accessories that can be applied to any of the company’s animals, including a Ghostbusters jump suit, a proton pack, a “Who ya gonna call” t-shirt, a Ghostbusters t-shirt, and a chip that plays the Ghostbusters theme song. Plus the company is selling a “marshmallow scent,” which is presumably designed to be paired with the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, although it could also be used to add a sweet fragrance to your ursine Ghostbuster.
