Celebrate November 5 by turning yourself into V For Vendetta’s V
Today is November 5, Guy Fawkes Day, and the obvious pop-cultural-savvy way to mark the occasion is to don the guise of the revolutionary title character from 2006’s V For Vendetta, the film based on the David Lloyd/Alan Moore graphic novel about a dystopian future society where just about everything fun has been outlawed and the only way to restore justice is to blow some shit up real good. Now, the obvious way to transform oneself into Hugo Weaving’s V character is simply to put on one of those ubiquitous, smiling Guy Fawkes masks, the kind worn by protesters who routinely clutter up city sidewalks and waste the time of innocent people who are just trying to get to the Jamba Juice on the corner, for Christ’s sake.
But for those who don’t want to take the easy way out their entire lives, YouTuber Becky K has posted a detailed V For Vendetta make-up tutorial, allowing fans to become the hairless, bumpy, peach-colored test subject lurking behind that famous, smug visage. For those who don’t have the time or resources for such an endeavor, the tutorial is still a fascinating, strangely relaxing watch, as Becky patiently stuffs her hair under a bald cap and then proceeds to affix all manner of craters, lesions, and pustules to her hair, using various fixatives and gelatin-based products. To add to the patriotic fervor of this endeavor, the transformation is underscored with Tchaikovsky’s immortal 1812 Overture.
