Celebrate unbreakable gals with a mashup of Mad Max: Fury Road and Kimmy Schmidt
2015 has been a good year for stories about courageous young women breaking free from their abusive abductors. Earlier this year, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt drew strong reviews as Netflix’s first original sitcom (and also for having the best “stop the presses” joke ever recorded by the human race), and now Mad Max: Fury Road has carried what’s basically that same plot to massive box office success. Of course, Fury Road was recently knocked from the top of the box office charts by the kidnapped-lady-free Pitch Perfect 2, hinting that the movie might have performed even better with a little pop music accompaniment. Cue, inevitably, the internet.
YouTuber Albert Lopez has put together a video that combines Fury Road’s cast of ferocious, kickass women, lead by Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, with the enthusiastically AutoTuned anthem that they deserve. Titled “The Unbreakable Furiosa,” the video brings footage from Fury Road together with the Kimmy Schmidt theme, “Unbreakable,” highlighting all the similarities between the two. (Namely: apocalypse cults, creepy white dudes, and ladies who refuse to quit.) And besides being catchy as hell, the video can also serve as a way of smoking out any misogynists hiding in your office or home, as the combination of two different projects with strong female protagonists will cause them to begin emitting a thick, unpleasant odor, as well as a droning, high-pitched whine. Simply follow your ears and nose, grab a broom, and gently shoo them out the door.
