Chadwick Boseman leads a manhunt in the trailer for gritty cop thriller 21 Bridges
Marvel stalwarts (and Avengers: Endgame directors) Joe and Anthony Russo produced 21 Bridges, a throwback cop thriller starring Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman. Now, following the healthy dose of buzz generated by the Cinemacon debut of its trailer, you can watch it for yourself.
Boseman, who also served as a producer, stars as an NYPD detective in pursuit of two cop killers who emerge as the key to a large, nefarious conspiracy. “As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him,” reads a synopsis. “When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.”
Boseman shadowed LAPD and NYPD officers in preparation for the role, saying at CinemaCon, “At times it was a lot of fun hanging out with them; at other times it was horrific, some of the things you experience. One of the things they talked about a lot was how the job affects them personally—how the job takes over their entire lives, and I think that’s an element of this film that we try to stay true to.”
Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch, Stephan James, Keith David, and J.K. Simmons also star in Brian Kirk’s film, which is slated for a July 12 release.
