Chance the Rapper and Zazie Beetz go monster-hunting in the Slice trailer

“I’m gonna tell you a story about a ghost, a werewolf, and a pretty shitty pizza place.” Thus begins the first real trailer for Slice, the upcoming pizza-delivery horror movie (Get it? Slice?) from Austin Veseley, the Chicago filmmaker who cut his teeth (again, pun totally intended) on Chance the Rapper’s “Angels” and “Sunday Candy” music videos.

Previously described simply as a “murder mystery” and a “slasher movie”, distributor A24 has been keeping details on the film under wraps until now. Watching the trailer, we’re getting more of a fun, John Carpenter-esque, Big Trouble In Little China vibe than we were expecting, particularly in the green ectoplasmic stuff that’s leaking from the basement of the “shitty pizza place” owned by Paul Scheer’s Jack. (No complaints here.) Good thing Astrid (Zazie Beetz) and Dax (Chance the Rapper), pizza-slingers who moonlight as monster hunters, are on the clock.

An official release date has yet to be announced for Slice, but A24 insists it’ll be out “soon.”
