Chance The Rapper is developing an original musical for MGM
According to Deadline, MGM is looking to tap into the big market for musicals and the big market for Chance The Rapper simultaneously, with the studio enlisting Chance to develop a musical called Hope. The film is about a group of teenagers in Chicago who “band together to turn art into action within their community,” which is basically Chance’s favorite thing in Chance’s favorite place. He’ll be working alongside Empire and Leftovers writer Carlito Rodriguez on the script, with Chicago-based musician Nico Segal—a former member of Kids These Days and a current member of The Social Experiment. Segal is a Grammy-winning songwriter, but if his name doesn’t sound familiar, it could be because he used to be better known by his stage name, Donnie Trumpet. (He dropped that name on November 9, 2016, for obvious reasons.)
We’re hoping this turns out better than the last movie Chance was involved in, but at least this will give him a chance to continue showing his love for The Windy City, a.k.a. The City Of The Big Shoulders, a.k.a. Hot Dog Town USA.
