Channing Tatum wants to beat people up for America in new Foxcatcher teaser
Based on this latest teaser for Foxcatcher, the latest film from Moneyball director Bennett Miller, someone at Sony still wants people to think it’s a movie about wrestling. Or maybe a movie about famous actors doing their best to look like slightly weirder versions of themselves.
Either way, it’s not actually about wrestling or how weird Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo look. At the risk of spoiling a true story, it’s actually about John do Pont, a millionaire wrestling trainer suffering from paranoid schizophrenia who eventually murders somebody. The first teaser focused mainly on Carell’s character, but this one deals with Mark Schultz, an aspiring Olympic wrestler played by Channing Tatum.
Rather than an uplifting story about the greatness of America and its handsome, muscle-y wrestlers, Foxcatcher looks to be more of a dark exploration of one man’s psychological demons. Everyone involved seems to be putting on their best Serious Actor face—or in the case of Tatum, smashing the shit out of their Serious Actor face—and award shows usually love that sort of thing. You can put on your own Serious Actor face when Foxcatcher hits theaters on November 14.
