Charli XCX is the TSA’s worst nightmare in "Von Dutch" music video
Charli XCX released the first single "Von Dutch" from her new album brat coming this summer
If your fantasies have ever included being beaten by a beautiful, manic woman in an airport, the video for the new Charli XCX single “Von Dutch” is for you. If you are a TSA agent who is passionate about flight safety, it is not! In her latest single, pop music’s alt princess Charli wreaks absolute havoc in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport while singing lyrics like “It’s okay to just admit that you’re jealous of me/You’re obsessing, just confess it ‘cause it’s obvious.”
On Wednesday Charli announced her new album brat, releasing this summer, posting the cover on Twitter/X with the note “15 songs. 41:23 minutes long. on repeat.” Previously, she tweeted a tease of the LP, sharing, “i was born to make dance music.. i came from the clubs.. xcx6 is the album i’ve always wanted to make. … i love you angels i love partying with you and i love all of you who wanted to be there but couldnt. xcx6 is a club record and i cant wait to party around the world with you all.”
The “Crash” singer previewed new tracks earlier this month during her Boiler Room DJ set in Brooklyn attended by The A.V. Club. She was also joined by celebrity guests Addison Rae (who danced to their duet “2 Die 4”) and Julia Fox (who performed her own single “Down The Drain”). New tracks teased at the show include the likely titles “Club Classics,” “Spring Breakers” and “Cute Clothes.”
Charli is one of a tidal wave of “pop girlies” releasing records this year in what might be considered a full-on a-pop-calypse: we’ve got confirmed 2024 albums from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Kacey Musgraves, Jennifer Lopez, Sia, Maggie Rogers, and Lana Del Rey, and rumored records coming from SZA, Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish, Halsey, and Katy Perry.
