Charlie Day may be joining Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim

Technically, Rob McElhenney may be vying to become It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s biggest star—because he’s fat now!—but Charlie Day continues to be the show’s genuine breakout. He’ll follow what looks to be a profitable summer co-starring in Horrible Bosses with a possible role in Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming monster movie Pacific Rim, joining the recently confirmed Charlie Hunnam in the big-budget film as a professor. Specific details on Pacific Rim are mostly being kept secret, although we do know that it involves a post-apocalyptic future where humans battle giant undersea aliens while strapped into equally giant robots. We’re guessing Day’s professor character will either be the comic-relief guy who hits upon the inherent weakness that allows those giant robots to fight the giant sea creatures, or the comic-relief guy who, it turns out, enabled those giant sea creatures to exist in the first place. Either way, he’s probably gonna die.
