Charlie Kaufman and Catherine Keener are making an HBO show together

Promising to be the most meta show on the network since Luck explored the cutthroat world of horse racing by killing several horses, HBO is fast-tracking a show from the mind of Charlie Kaufman, which certainly has a lot of things going on in there lately. The half-hour comedy stars Kaufman's frequent muse Catherine Keener in a premise that sounds decidedly like Charlie Kaufman: It's described as "an exploration of one day in a woman’s life and how the events leading up to it can affect, or not, the reality in which she lives." "It's Sex And The City, where the sex is the city," Kaufman did not add cryptically, though we'll pretend he did—and as Deadline notes, it is one of several female-led comedies HBO has been developing of late. Keener will produce as well as play the lead in her first series, with Kaufman writing, directing, and executive producing in his first return to TV since those early years he spent cutting his teeth on Get A Life, The Dana Carvey Show, and Ned And Stacey. How Kaufman plans to extend the premise of a single day in a character's life into a lasting television show without throwing some terrorists in there remains to be seen, but maybe he could throw some terrorists in there.
